Bookshops and Literature is the professional website of Dr. Matthew Chambers. He is a lecturer (adiunkt) at the Institute of English Studies, Jagiellonian University (Krakow), honorary lecturer at University College London, and the Publications Director of the Bookselling Research Network, founded by Professor Samantha Rayner and Professor Eben Muse. He has recently completed a major grant at the University of Reading, and published articles in leading journals (College Literature, Logos, Modernism and modernity), and chapters and books with leading presses (Cambridge University Press, Edinburgh University Press, Palgrave, Brill). He is the editor of The New Americanist (Edinburgh University Press) and is editing a special issue of English Studies (Taylor & Francis) on “Bookselling and Literature” (Fall 2027). He has recently been invited to contribute a chapter (“Libraries, Bookshops, and Publishing”) to the forthcoming Cambridge History of the Literature of London: 1914-Present and has received an expression of interest from Cambridge University Press for a monograph on bookselling and literary networks.
